What to Expect from the Chatham Apprentice Program (CAP)

The Chatham Apprentice Program (CAP) is a free, 16 day program offering training, career coaching, and certifications to help you build a stronger future.
The program provides in-person training sessions held Monday through Thursday for a few hours each day, making it easy to fit into your schedule and accessible for participants with varying needs.

In just 16 days, you’ll gain skills, earn certifications, and create a clear plan for your career.

  • The Chatham Apprentice Program (CAP) is designed for:

    • Residents of Chatham County who are 17½ years old and older

    • Individuals who are unemployed or underemployed

    • Those facing barriers to employment, such as gaps in work history, low education or basic skills, or a criminal background

    • People who are ready and committed to making a positive change in their lives

  • Career Coaching and Job Placement Assistance

    • Personalized coaching to set career goals, improve employability, and connect with job opportunities

    Financial Literacy Education and Bridges Out of Poverty Training

    • Workshops and resources to build money management skills and break cycles of poverty

    Behavioral Counseling and Mediation Services

    • Access to mental health support and conflict resolution services to promote personal and professional stability

    Need-Based Stipends for Clothing and Toiletries

    • Assistance with essential needs to help participants prepare for interviews, training, and employment

    Transportation and Childcare Support (some restrictions may apply)

    • Limited assistance to reduce common barriers to participation and employment success

    Public Benefits Screening and Enrollment

    • Help accessing available benefits such as SNAP, Medicaid, and other supportive programs

    Vital Document Assistance

    • Support in obtaining important documents like Social Security cards, birth certificates, and state IDs

    Legal Assistance Referrals

    • Connections to resources that help participants address and overcome legal barriers to employment

    Healthy Eating and Meal Planning Workshops

    • Guidance on creating affordable, nutritious meal plans to support overall well-being

    Holistic Wraparound Support

    • Customized referrals and services designed to address challenges in employment, housing, education, and criminal history

  • Medical Billing & Front Office Certification (Limited seating)

  • Emergency Services Certification (EMT Basic, EMRT)

  • Registered Behavioral Technician (RBT)

  • ServSafe Handler Certification

  • ServSafe Manager Certification

  • OSHA 10 Certification (Construction/General Industry)

  • TWIC Assistance

  • Ironworker Skills

    • Welding, Scaffolding

    • OSHA 10, OSHA 30

    • American Welding Society (AWS) Certification

  • Partial CDL Scholarship

  • Jockey Truck Operator Certification (Limited seating)

  • Forklift Safety Certification

  • Those who face barriers to employment such as spotty work history, low educational and basic skill levels, or criminal background
  • Those ready and committed to making a change

  • Servsafe Certification

Additionally, program participants are followed for up to 12 months to ensure stability is established and barriers to employment are overcome.
