25 Families

Step Up worked on an exciting and challenging program focusing on improving the quality of life for 25 families in Savannah and Chatham County from 2006 to 2007. Volunteers from the community stepped up to work closely with these families, to learn from them, identify common themes for the action teams, and to help them as they move towards self sufficiency. Candidates were interviewed and selections made based on the following criteria:
- Family income must be below the national poverty level and the families must represent the five census tracts in Savannah where there are high poverty rates.
- Families must be diverse.
- Families must “step up” to participate–that is, actively participate with Step Up representatives in both planning and implementing agreed to “Step Up” strategies.
